Mid-Atlantic Flute Convention Auditions
The Mid-Atlantic Flute Convention is held every year in Reston, VA, this year 2/16 - 2/17. There are many opportunities for young flutists to submit recordings for competitions, masterclasses, and flute choirs. I encourage all of my students to participate!

All applicants must complete an online application through fsw.net. The application form, recording, and fees must be submitted by Thursday, November 1, 2018 at 5:00 pm EST. No late entries will be accepted.
This competition is for outstanding flutists in grade 12 and under. Three finalists will be selected on the basis of their recording from each division. Cash prizes will be awarded. All works for flute and keyboard must be recorded using both instruments.
Application fee $20
Preliminary round (must be recorded with piano, except elementary level):
Senior Division - A Night Piece, Arthur Foote (Southern Music)
Junior Division – Haru No Umi, Michio Miyagi (Showpieces, Galway, Novello)
Elementary Division – A Distant Horizon, Ricky Lombardo (Solo Spotlight, LMP)
Senior Division – Hymn of Pan, Charles Delaney (Little Piper)
Junior Division - Reflections, Katherine Hoover (Papagena Press)

Student Master Class Performers
Young flutists will be selected to perform for the class, taught by local artists and teachers, at the Convention. The class is open to all students in grade 12 and under. Music written for flute and keyboard must be recorded with both instruments, piano or music accompaniment track.
Application fee $15.
Submit a recording containing music of your choice, not to exceed 5 minutes.
Mid-Atlantic High School Flute Choir
The Mid-Atlantic High School Flute Choir is open to all high school students in grade 9-12. Members of this choir are selected on the basis of a recorded audition. The choir will rehearse during the Convention weekend, beginning Friday evening, culminating with a concert. Selected choir members are required to be in attendance at all scheduled rehearsals over the weekend, no exception. Music written for flute and keyboard must be recorded with both instruments, piano or music accompaniment track.
Application fee $15.
Submit a recording containing:
a chromatic scale: three octaves, sixteenth notes at metronome marking♩= 80; slur up the scale, tongue two/slur two down the scale

Applicants wishing to perform on piccolo should include: The Toreador Song, Bizet (Kendor Music).
