STUDIO POLICY 2019/20

  • Workshops and masterclasses in articulation, breathing, performance anxiety, etc. may be added based on student interest.

TEACHER RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Teach students a well-rounded musical education including theory, technique and tonal exercises, intonation, sight reading skills, and instrumental-specific repertoire in its historical context.

  • Maintain memberships to professional organizations and further musical knowledge and teaching skills by attending conferences and workshops.

  • Treat each student with respect, patience, and compassion by creating a positive and encouraging learning environment.

  • Tailor lessons to each individual student and create lesson plans to fit their specific needs.

PARENT RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Set aside regular time for student practice daily – breaking up practice into multiple sessions is best for focus.

  • Provide an assignment notebook, pencils, metronome, music stand, and tuner in a quiet place for uninterrupted practice.

  • Purchase original lesson materials. I will provide copies initially, but will also provide you with links and information to purchase any music or materials I may request for your child.

  • Pay monthly tuition by the 1st of each month. For account questions, please contact Dr. Shanley at info@meghanshanleyflute.com.

STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Practice daily! Practicing is required.

  • Arrive on time, well prepared, and with all materials for every lesson. Your tuition reserves your lesson time slot, not the length of your lesson.

  • Participation in MMEA Solo and Ensemble Festival, as well as participation in a youth orchestra or school ensemble. Playing with others is an integral part of learning your instrument. You will meet others with common interests and learn from your peers!

  • Participation in our Studio Recital is mandatory.

COMMITMENT/SUMMER LESSONS

When students enroll, they are reserving their lesson slot for the entire year. The enrollment agreement is a firm commitment and guarantees your place in the studio. When students withdraw from lessons during the summer months (July-August), their slots are made available to registering students. Summer scheduling is flexible:

  • Lesson dates/times may change or be canceled to accommodate summer camps, vacations, and activities. If schedule changes are confirmed prior to invoicing each month, there is no charge for canceled lessons. Regular cancelation policy is followed if schedule changes are requested after invoicing.

  • I am happy to accommodate a complete lesson date/time change for the entire summer.

  • Students terminating lessons for the summer must give 30 days written and paid tuition notice.

TUITION

  • An invoice will be billed 2 weeks prior to the 1st of each month when payment is due. Tuition is billed monthly based on the number of lesson days that month.

  • Only online payments are accepted, which are due on the 1st of each month. There is a $25 fee for any returned payments. You may contact Dr. Shanley at info@meghanshanleyflute.com with billing questions at any time.

  • Lessons are a prepaid service. A $10 late fee is charged when payments become 1 week late, and lessons are suspended until payment is made. If payment is more than 30 days late, the student’s slot is made available to registering students. Tuition is non-refundable.

  • There is an additional Recital Fee of $50 automatically added to your September invoice which is used directly to hire a piano accompanist, rent our recital space, and purchase refreshments. Recitals are a mandatory requirement and recital fees are non-refundable.

CANCELATION POLICY

Please understand the tuition you pay reserves an exclusive weekly time in the schedule for your child. Please choose a lesson time that fits your child’s scheduling needs.

  • Lessons canceled with a minimum of 24 hours notice may be rescheduled or "made up" within 30 days time. After 30 days the make up lesson is expired. Due to my schedule, I am able to teach 1 make up per semester for 3 total make ups total per year. I do my best to accommodate every student's scheduling needs and understand special circumstances do arise. Extra make ups may be scheduled at my discretion, especially during summer months.

  • Cancelations made less than 24 hours prior to the scheduled lesson time will not be made up. If I am not notified, the lesson will be counted as a “no show” and will not be made up.

  • Makeup lessons are scheduled at the time I am notified of the lesson cancelation. Additional lessons cannot be taught in advance at no charge to accommodate student cancelations when instances arise in future months.

  • If I need to reschedule a lesson, I will contact you as soon as possible to find a mutually convenient time for a make up lesson. If a time to reschedule cannot be found, you will be credited for that lesson on the following month’s invoice.

TERMINATING LESSONS

The teacher may terminate lessons due to negative behavior, failure to practice, or failure to adhere to studio policies. Any termination initiated by the parent or student requires 30 days written and paid tuition notice.

VIDEO RECORDINGS AND PHOTOGRAPHS

During private/group lessons and performances, the teacher reserves the right to use video recording or take photographs of students for use in lesson demonstration, advertising materials, and studio-owned websites. Photos taken by the teacher or shared with the teacher by other parents or students become the property of the studio and can be used at the discretion of the teacher in regards to the studio. The studio follows online safety rules in this matter.
